How it works

The scanner does what a first-time visitor's browser does, and writes down every cookie it is given.

Each page loads and runs its JavaScript as it would for a visitor, and Kukie.io records every cookie set by a script or by the server. -

Cookies are matched against more than 3,300 known cookies and sorted into Essential, Functional, Analytics or Marketing, with the provider where it is known.

Questions about the cookie scanner
What does the cookie scanner find?
Every cookie the scanned pages set while they load: first-party and third-party cookies, set by scripts and by the server's responses. Each one is matched against Kukie.io's database of more than 3,300 known cookies and sorted into Essential, Functional, Analytics or Marketing.
How many pages does it scan?
Up to 10 pages of one website: the homepage and pages it finds in the site's sitemap. A Kukie.io account scans more: 100 pages per scan on the Free plan.
Does the scan find every cookie?
It finds the cookies a page sets when it loads, the way a visitor's browser would, with JavaScript running. Cookies that appear only after a click, a sign-in or a purchase are not found, because an automated scan does not do those things.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The scan runs on Kukie.io's servers. Enter the website's address and start the scan. You do not need an account or a browser extension.
How are cookies sorted into categories?
First by name, against the known-cookie database. Then by common name patterns, such as _ga for Google Analytics and _fbp for Meta. Then by the domain that set the cookie. A cookie that matches none of these is listed as Uncategorised. You can look up any cookie by name in the Cookie database.
Does the scan collect my visitors' data?
No. The scanner loads the pages itself, as a new visitor with no cookies, so it never sees your visitors. It keeps the names, domains and settings of the cookies it finds.
What does a Kukie.io account add?
A consent banner that asks visitors before these cookies are set, scans of more pages that you can run again, a record of every consent choice, and cookie and privacy policies. The pricing page lists what each plan includes.
How often should I scan my website?
Scan again whenever you add a plugin, a tracking tag or another third-party service, because each can add cookies. On the Pro, Agency and Unlimited plans, Kukie.io can repeat the scan every week or every month.
