Transferring Organisation Ownership

Overview

You can transfer ownership of your organisation to any existing team member. The new owner will take over all management responsibilities, including billing.

What transfers

When you transfer ownership, the new owner receives:

  • All sites and their data - cookie scans, consent logs, banner settings, everything.
  • Billing and subscription - the current plan continues without interruption.
  • Team management rights - the ability to invite, remove, and manage team members.

Your role will be changed from Owner to Admin. You will retain access to the organisation but will no longer be able to manage billing or transfer ownership.

What happens to the payment method

For security, the current payment method is removed when ownership is transferred. This means:

  • The existing credit card or payment method is detached from the organisation.
  • The new owner must add their own payment method.
  • A prominent banner will appear in the dashboard reminding the new owner to update the payment method.
  • The subscription continues - the new owner has until the next billing date to add a payment method.

If no payment method is added before the next billing date, the payment will fail. After Stripe's retry attempts are exhausted, the subscription will be cancelled and sites exceeding the free plan limit will be frozen.

How to transfer ownership

  1. Go to the Organisations page in your dashboard.
  2. Find the organisation you want to transfer.
  3. Click Transfer Ownership.
  4. Select the new owner from the team member dropdown.
  5. Type transfer to confirm.
  6. Click Transfer Ownership.

Both you and the new owner will receive email notifications confirming the transfer.

After the transfer

For the new owner

  • Add a payment method in Billing Settings as soon as possible.
  • Review the current plan and sites.
  • You now have full control over team management.

For the previous owner

  • Your role is now Admin.
  • Your payment method has been removed from this organisation.
  • You can still access and manage sites, but cannot change the plan or transfer ownership.

Requirements

  • You must be the current Owner of the organisation.
  • The new owner must already be a team member.
  • The organisation must have at least two members.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer ownership of a free organisation?

Yes. The process is the same, but since there is no subscription or payment method, the billing-related steps are skipped.

Can I transfer ownership back to myself later?

Only the current owner can initiate a transfer. You would need to ask the new owner to transfer it back to you.

What happens to invoices and billing history?

Invoice history is tied to the organisation's Stripe customer account, so it remains accessible to the new owner in Billing Settings.

Will the transfer affect my other organisations?

No. Each organisation is independent. Transferring one does not affect any others you own.
